Securing digital payments with AI-powered fraud detection

Sionic, a financial payments company building a real-time payment solution on Google Cloud, needed a way to support instant bank payments without increasing fraud risk. To address this challenge, Sionic engaged Slalom and Google Cloud Consulting to design an AI/ML-powered fraud detection system using Google Cloud products including Vertex AI, BigQuery, and Cloud Run.

Slalom helped Sionic apply fraud domain expertise to create AI-based synthetic data, which filled the gap left by the platform’s lack of live transaction history. With Slalom and Google Cloud’s support, Sionic was able to build training and inference pipelines to assess payment fraud risk in real time and decide whether transactions should be processed, strengthening the foundation for secure digital payments.
