Case Study: Holland America Line boosts onboard revenue and guest experience with Slalom and Microsoft BI

A Slalom Case Study

Preview of the Holland America Line Case Study

Making a great cruise experience even better

Holland America Line (HAL) faced a challenge with its existing business intelligence platform, which was not user-friendly and hindered the analysis of onboard revenue performance. To increase adoption and gain better insights to drive sales and improve the guest experience, the cruise line engaged vendor Slalom to help migrate its systems to Microsoft SQL Server 2012 and SharePoint Server 2010.

Slalom partnered with HAL to implement new SQL Server Analysis Services tabular models and create a centralized BI portal using SharePoint. This solution provided fast, easy access to data through familiar tools like Excel. The results were significant: BI usage increased threefold, empowering business users and freeing IT from report creation. This led to data-driven decisions that increased revenue, improved the guest experience, and eliminated third-party licensing costs for HAL.
