Helping Families Navigate a Pandemic

The Autism Alliance of Michigan (AAoM) faced a challenge when the pandemic disrupted critical care systems, causing a surge in demand for its services. Its manual, free-tool-based provider directory was overwhelmed as providers rapidly launched new telehealth options. AAoM needed a robust, scalable solution to help its Navigators quickly connect families to vital resources. Vendor Slalom stepped in to help overhaul this system.

Slalom built a new provider directory management system comprising a data entry form, a structured SQL database, and dashboards, all hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS) via Amazon Lightsail for a quick and cost-effective launch. This solution streamlined data collection for staff and made it significantly easier for families and Navigators to find and save provider information. The new system securely supports the 2,000 families AAoM serves annually and is a crucial tool for its goal of reaching over 100,000 individuals with autism in the state.
