GenAI personalization for alumni fundraising

UCLA’s Anderson School of Management partnered with Slalom to explore how generative AI could improve alumni fundraising by personalizing donor outreach. The school wanted a way to better tailor messages within its existing data and marketing platform, using tools like Salesforce Marketing Cloud and AWS-based AI capabilities to make emails more relevant and effective.

Slalom implemented a secure pilot using Amazon Bedrock and Anthropic Claude 3 Sonnet to generate personalized email content based on alumni details such as class year, giving history, degree type, and fellowship history. The campaign delivered measurable gains, including a 66% increase in click-through rate, an 86% higher conversion to donation, a 26% lift in average gift size, and a 132% increase in total dollars raised.
