Case Study: Seattle Aquarium improves employee communication and collaboration with Slalom’s Aquanet intranet

A Slalom Case Study

Building a better way to Communicate online

The Seattle Aquarium, a major non-profit education center and the ninth-largest aquarium in the US, was struggling with ineffective internal communication. Employees lacked a central hub for announcements and policies, and over 100GB of files were disorganized across various locations. Without a dedicated budget or expertise, they engaged Slalom to build a solution using Microsoft SharePoint technology.

Working pro bono, Slalom’s team designed and developed a customized intranet site named Aquanet to serve as the central source for all employee news and information. The solution provided a simple, clean design that streamlined communications and document access. As a result, employees can now devote more time to the aquarium’s mission instead of searching for information, with one director stating the organization now cannot function without it.
