A Skyward Case Study
Oak Ridge Schools, a public district of about 5,000 students, faced limitations from its previous student information system that only handled basic demographics and attendance. Wanting richer analytics, better teacher–parent communication, and dependable state reporting, Oak Ridge evaluated vendors and in 2007 became the first district in Tennessee to purchase the Skyward Student Management Suite (and later the School Business Suite), choosing Skyward over the free, state-provided system.
Skyward implemented its Student Management Suite—including Gradebook, Family Access, Food Service and Response to Intervention modules—worked with the district and the Tennessee Department of Education to obtain certification, and provided extensive onsite training. As a result, Oak Ridge can break down test scores by subgroups, identify and track interventions, improve communication with parents, and meet state reporting deadlines reliably; administrators reported ten times more professional training than with other vendors, and Skyward’s success with Oak Ridge contributed to Tennessee naming Skyward a preferred SIS partner in 2014.
