A Skyward Case Study
Lake County School District faced an urgent technology challenge: after more than 30 years on a text-based, “end-of-life” system with rising maintenance costs and limited state-reporting capabilities, the district needed a modern, GUI-based solution that combined student and business management while overcoming staff resistance to change. After evaluating options, the district selected Skyward’s School Management System, which integrates the Student Management Suite and School Business Suite.
Skyward implemented a phased rollout (School Business Suite first, then Student Management Suite) with extensive onsite training and project management support. The new Skyward solution delivered measurable efficiencies: purchase-order processing dropped from three days to one; about 860 employees moved off paper checks via Employee Access; grade reporting reduced IT overtime and made grades visible to parents in real time; state reporting and end-of-course processes became much simpler; and the district eliminated several third-party workarounds. Overall, Skyward’s integrated system improved operations, transparency, and staff satisfaction.
