Illinois School District Transitions to Virtual Learning Environment by Integrating LMS with SIS

Consolidated High School District 230, an Orland Park, Illinois district serving 7,308 students, faced the sudden need to shift to full virtual learning during the COVID‑19 pandemic. Already using Skyward as their student information system for more than a decade, D230 needed an SIS-driven solution that would integrate with their existing LMS (Canvas) and be simple enough for teachers, students, and parents to adopt quickly.

Skyward integrated with Canvas and became the hub for the district’s eLearning plan—using the Skyward Message Center for daily assignments and attendance and Grade Passback to automatically sync grades into the Skyward gradebook. That integration and Skyward support enabled D230 to continue instruction without interruption, streamline rosters/attendance/grade management, reduce manual work for tech staff, and increase teacher adoption and communication across the district—outcomes CTO John Connolly credits to Skyward.
