Alpine School District - Customer Case Study

Alpine School District, a Utah district serving about 80,000 students, faced a growing problem: traditional letter grades were losing meaning and failing to guide instruction. Seeking clearer, more actionable feedback for students, parents, and teachers, Alpine decided to adopt standards-based grading (SBG) and partnered with Skyward, using the Skyward Student Management Suite to support the transition.

Using Skyward’s Student Management Suite—particularly Event Maintenance, Expected Levels of Performance, the Message Center, and customizable report cards—Alpine mapped standards, tracked mastery, and centralized student data districtwide. The result: teachers can pull up performance charts instead of stacks of papers, parents get clearer progress reports, data follows students across schools (saving instructional minutes), and the district now provides standards-based report cards for all 80,000 students. Skyward became Alpine’s main hub for SBG, improving transparency, parent communication, and targeted interventions.
