Clear Channel Outdoor Swiftly Migrates Production Workloads to Azure

Clear Channel Italy, part of the global Clear Channel outdoor advertising group, needed to move its decade‑old AS/400 (IBM i) production workloads to Microsoft Azure because the on‑premises hardware was aging and the OS was no longer supported. The priority was a migration with minimal change or business disruption to avoid operational risk and downtime.

Working with Microsoft and Skytap, Clear Channel migrated the IBM Power workloads to Skytap on Azure using a lift‑and‑shift approach (including “clone to region”), thorough testing and tuning, and a final cutover that completed without incident. The result: production systems now run reliably in Skytap, the IBM OS was upgraded from 6.0 to 7.4, hardware risk eliminated, and the company gained faster ways to provision dev/test/DR environments plus improved visibility for future modernization.
