The Knoxville Police Department sought to implement a Drone as First Responder (DFR) program to improve emergency response. Their challenge was to remotely deploy drones to provide officers with real-time situational awareness for incidents like emergency calls, severe weather, and large-scale events. They partnered with Skydio, utilizing the Skydio Dock and Skydio X10 drones for this automated solution.

Skydio's solution involved installing a network of drone docks across the city, from which drones are deployed remotely from a central Real Time Information Center. This provides officers with critical, real-time information as situations unfold. The results include enhanced operational awareness and a commitment to public transparency, as the department will also launch a public dashboard with detailed flight logs. Skydio's technology enables the Knoxville PD to respond more effectively to community emergencies.
