The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (Alaska DOT&PF) faced the challenge of providing emergency response and infrastructure monitoring for remote, roadless communities that are highly vulnerable to natural disasters. To address this, they partnered with Skydio to launch the ARROW drone program.

Using Skydio's autonomous drones, the solution enables Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) missions to collect critical data for a shared statewide GIS. This allows for rapid damage assessment after disasters via live streaming, speeding up the delivery of aid. The data is also used to map hazards on winter ice roads, improving safety for residents.
