A SkyBitz Case Study
Fugro Chance, an offshore survey company supporting oil drilling rigs and production platforms in the Gulf of Mexico, needed a reliable way to track pickup trucks and specialized equipment containers as crews moved among ports, vessels, and rigs across land and sea. With operations exposed to remote locations and severe weather, the company needed constant visibility into where its vehicles and high-value “Silver Bullets” were at any given time.
SkyBitz provided the tracking solution through Mobile Terminals installed on Fugro Chance’s pickup trucks and equipment containers. Using SkyBitz’s L-band geostationary satellite network, the company maintained visibility even when cellular coverage was unavailable, including during Hurricane Katrina when cell towers failed. The result was continuous asset tracking for equipment worth about $50,000 per box, helping Fugro Chance recover vehicles during storms and avoid losing valuable containers on docks or in transit.
