Lance Transport Optimizes Trailer Fleet with SkyBitz Technology

Lance Transport, an LTL carrier headquartered in Hickory, N.C., needed better visibility into its trailer fleet. The company often dropped trailers at customer facilities but couldn’t always tell where they were, making it hard to reposition equipment quickly and know whether trailers were being used efficiently. To solve this challenge, Lance Transport turned to SkyBitz and its GLS asset-tracking technology.

SkyBitz installed its GLS technology on more than 315 trailers, giving Lance Transport daily visibility into trailer location and how long each trailer had been idle. With this data, the company could reposition trailers sitting unused for more than seven days and find available equipment when capacity got tight. As a result, Lance Transport cut its trailer-to-tractor ratio from 3.5 to 3.0 in less than two years, added 15 new tractors instead of more trailers, and estimated savings of $1 million.
