Johnson & Johnson faced a growing tech talent shortage as it pursued digital transformation, data science, cloud, cybersecurity, and DevOps initiatives. Working with Skillsoft research and using the Johnson & Johnson Learn platform, the company focused on upskilling and reskilling existing employees rather than relying only on outside hiring.

Skillsoft highlighted the need to close skill gaps through internal development, and Johnson & Johnson implemented an internal gig economy and mentorship program to help employees build new capabilities through real project work. Nearly 1,000 gigs have been posted since launch, giving employees real-world experience, career mobility, and networking opportunities while Johnson & Johnson sources skills internally, supports learning, and improves retention.
