A SkillCorner Case Study
The University of Florida Sports Analytics Lab faced the challenge of moving beyond traditional basketball statistics to quantify the action of "offensive crashing"—the act of players pursuing offensive rebounds. This behavior is crucial for generating second-chance points but is not captured by box scores, making it difficult to analyze at scale. Partnering with SkillCorner, the Lab used SkillCorner’s AI-powered tracking and Dynamic Events data to build a model capable of identifying this key action.
SkillCorner’s tracking data enabled the UF Lab to develop a movement-based model that classifies a player's decision to crash on every shot. The solution achieved a 97% validation accuracy against film review and was integrated directly into the Florida Men's Basketball scouting workflow. This provided coaches with detailed reports on player crash rates and their success, offering a more complete picture of offensive rebounding tendencies for both their team and opponents.
