A Skild Case Study
The Television Academy Foundation, together with mtvU/Viacom, runs the mtvU College Television Awards to showcase and support student-produced film, television and media work. Facing the challenge of creating a credible, nationwide competition for enrolled U.S. college students, the administrators needed a fair, industry-standard judging process and meaningful pathways into the entertainment industry.
mtvU/Viacom implemented a three‑round judging cycle that mirrors Primetime Emmy procedures, across 16 categories and more than 65 trophies awarded annually, with a blue‑ribbon panel selecting top prizes. Winners receive cash awards, are flown to Los Angeles for the ceremony, attend a Nominee Summit, and join the Television Academy Foundation alumni network—resulting in nearly 40 years of sustained impact, strong industry exposure for students, and alumni who have gone on to notable careers, including Primetime Emmy winners.
