A SKC Communications Case Study
Lawrence Douglas County Fire and Medical worked with SKC Communications to address a challenge common to many multi-station emergency services organizations: frequent travel for training and internal meetings was taking firefighters and division chiefs away from their stations, creating potential delays in response times and making communication less efficient. To help keep the city of Lawrence safe, the department needed a way to reduce time away from the station while still supporting nonstop training and coordination.
SKC Communications, in partnership with Polycom and supported by an AFG Grant, implemented a videoconferencing solution built on the Polycom RMX infrastructure, Group Series codecs, and mobile carts. The new system enabled training and meetings to be completed via video from stations, desktops, and iPads, allowing division chiefs to connect daily without traveling. As a result, all fire training and internal meetings could be handled remotely, helping keep every station fully staffed at all times.
