Preview of the Clarke County Hospital Case Study

Clarke County Hospital - Customer Case Study

Clarke County Hospital in Osceola, Iowa wanted to bring specialist care closer to home for local residents, who often had to travel nearly an hour to Des Moines for treatment. The hospital partnered with SKC Communications and Cisco to explore telemedicine using products such as Cisco TelePresence Edge 95 MXP, Cisco TelePresence 1700 MXP, Cisco TelePresence Management Suite, and the Cisco TelePresence Video Communication Server.

SKC Communications designed and deployed a phased telemedicine solution that connected Clarke County Hospital patients with specialists in Des Moines using videoconferencing units integrated with medical devices like stethoscopes. After the first phase was completed in two weeks, patients immediately saved time and money by avoiding travel, and the second phase added 12 more patient rooms plus ER, surgery, and community-access units. The program expanded access to cardiology and vascular care, with plans to add more specialties, and SKC Communications was praised for adapting the solution to the hospital’s changing needs.
