City of Independence - Customer Case Study

The City of Independence, a large Missouri municipality, was struggling with the high recurring costs of maintaining one of the state’s largest legacy Plexar networks. To replace its centralized phone system and separate lines to remote locations, the city turned to SKC Communications for an Avaya IP-enabled voice system upgrade, including Avaya Communication Manager and related media server and gateway infrastructure.

SKC Communications removed the legacy hardware and migrated the city to an Avaya S8500/S8510-based solution with G650 gateways and updated messaging and software, enabling centralized voicemail, administration, and IP connectivity to remote sites. The result was a smoother cutover and a simpler, more scalable communications network that reduced dependence on costly Plexar lines and is expected to substantially lower telephony costs as all sites move to IP.
