Center for Rural Health Innovation - Customer Case Study

The Center for Rural Health Innovation needed a way to provide healthcare access for children in rural North Carolina schools, where distance and travel made appointments difficult for families and school staff. SKC Communications helped address this challenge with a school-based telemedicine approach using AMD Telemed ED carts and supporting telehealth infrastructure.

SKC Communications implemented Telemed ED carts in schools, each equipped with a digital stethoscope, exam camera, digital otoscope, and telemedicine software so students could be evaluated without leaving campus. The solution was installed in 14 schools across Yancy and Mitchell counties, helping students receive care faster while reducing missed school time and cutting down on parents’ time away from work.
