U.S. Forest Service maps wildfire trajectories over 2 weeks with Six Feet Up

The U.S. Forest Service, via a national data service provider, needed a web-based service to accurately predict forest fire trajectories, generate Potential Control Locations (PCLs), and catalog fires to aid in suppression planning. They partnered with Six Feet Up to take existing research and code and implement it at a deployable scale.

Six Feet Up developed a backend simulation program in Python to create a Suppression Difficulty Index and project fire trajectories. They built a website using GeoDjango to compile fire data and generate maps with PCLs. The solution by Six Feet Up helps identify where wildfires will spread, minimizes damage by helping constrain blazes, and protects lives and property by enabling more efficient use of emergency resources.
