Purdue University College of Engineering migrates 30,000+ pages to Plone with Six Feet Up

Purdue University College of Engineering faced the mammoth challenge of migrating its enormous website, consisting of over 30,000 pages and 40+ subsites, from an aging and insecure Zope CMS. The existing system was difficult to modernize, lacked a GUI for updates, and raised security concerns. The college partnered with vendor Six Feet Up to evaluate solutions and ultimately migrate to the Plone CMS.

Six Feet Up implemented a meticulous migration process to Plone 5.2 on Python 3, moving subsites individually to limit downtime. The solution included using Diazo to import the university's brand-compliant theme and implementing the Mosaic editor to give content editors an intuitive, drag-and-drop interface for building pages without code. Six Feet Up also built a Sandbox for safe testing. The result was a modernized, secure infrastructure that empowered content editors with greater freedom and tools, successfully achieved through close collaboration between the college's teams and Six Feet Up.
