A high-end UK hotel group was considering adding PayPal to its checkout but wanted to know whether customers would use it and whether the lack of PayPal was costing bookings. The challenge was to measure true demand without first investing in the payment integration.
Using SiteSpect the team inserted a simulated PayPal button on the payment page that returned a friendly error when clicked, then tracked clicks and subsequent drop-off. Five percent of users clicked the button but only 2% completed a purchase after seeing the error; extrapolating the data suggested an uplift of about £55,000 per month, so the brand is proceeding to implement PayPal and additional digital wallet options.
