A large retailer discovered an unusually high exit rate from its “sign in / account” page and suspected it was missing opportunities to convert visitors into registered users for better targeting and personalization. The challenge was to reduce drop-offs and encourage account creation without disrupting the navigation experience.
The team tested two variations that opened a dropdown from the “sign in / account” button and added a “create an account” link (placed either at the top or bottom of the list). The winning variation drove nearly a 600% increase in new account creation and boosted overall conversions by almost 20%, and the retailer rolled that experience out to 100% of traffic.
