A large clothing retailer tested removing suggested items from its Cart page and saw improved conversions, so they tried to apply the same “less distraction” approach to product detail pages to replicate that success.
They ran an A/B test removing product suggestions on detail pages and found it hurt performance: conversions fell by 5%, suggested-item click-throughs dropped 75%, search requests rose 3.7%, product detail page views fell 6%, and add-to-carts declined 2.3%. The experiment prevented a harmful site-wide change and reinforced that wins on one page don’t always generalize to others.
