A Sitefinity Case Study

Preview of the PlanetMagpie Case Study

Building a More Capable, More SEO-Friendly Planetmagpie.com Using Sitefinity CMS

PlanetMagpie is a San Jose–area IT consulting and web development firm that needed a full website rebuild because their PM 2.5 site lacked key administration capabilities and used GUID-based URLs that hurt SEO. Content and navigation were disconnected—content could be updated automatically but menus required manual edits—so after exploring simplifying the site, building a proprietary CMS, and third‑party options, they selected Sitefinity for its ASP.NET codebase, built‑in SEO, modular architecture, and ease of customization.

Using Sitefinity they rebuilt PlanetMagpie.com (PM 3.0) on Windows Server/IIS with SQL Server, migrated ~400 pages, customized three internal modules and built three new ones (including a Portfolio), and optimized asset reuse and load time. The new CMS delivered SEO‑friendly URLs, centralized content and navigation management, smoother administration, successful portfolio functionality, and rapid re‑indexing by search engines—completed in about four months and now recommended to their clients.
