A Sitecore Case Study
National Wildlife Federation, the largest nonprofit conservation organization in the United States, relied on its website to inform the public, grow membership and raise revenue but was hampered by a fragmented mix of home‑grown CMSs that made publishing slow, inconsistent and IT‑dependent. Facing crisis communications needs during the April 2010 Gulf oil disaster, the National Wildlife Federation selected Sitecore’s Content Management System (implemented with partner Non‑Linear Creations) to simplify publishing, unify information architecture and enable rapid, credible updates.
Sitecore (with NLC) led a broad redesign—conducting nearly 100 stakeholder interviews, consolidating architecture and deploying Sitecore CMS with custom modules (tagging, storytelling, photo slideshows), extended Web Forms for Marketers and payment integration—to streamline content workflows. Since launch Sitecore has driven a significant return on investment: user time on site has increased, editors now update content directly, IT staff focus on new features rather than routine edits, and the organization was able to act as a timely national voice during oil‑spill crises.
