APM Terminals, a global logistics operator, needed to manage fluctuating and rapidly growing demand, improve slow access to port and shipment information, simplify complex vessel scheduling, reduce manual IT work, and avoid alienating customers with too much brand content—challenges exacerbated by a huge COVID-19 spike in traffic. To address this, APM Terminals selected Sitecore (including Sitecore Experience Platform XP 9.0, Experience Manager, xDB, EXM and xConnect) to modernize its customer-facing site and mobile communications.
Sitecore implemented a scalable, integrated platform with Azure, APIs, Akamai and CI/CD tooling to deliver new services (interactive maps, mobile alerts), better tracking and automated content deployments. The result: first-year traffic up 75%, new users +82%, new sessions +20%, mobile use +62%, 4,000 alert sign-ups in year one, and the ability to handle traffic surges up to 300% during COVID-19—plus improved engagement, brand trust and fewer manual errors.
