Epicure Protects Business Critical SQL Server with Amazon EC2 and SIOS SANLess Clustering Software

Epicure, Canada’s leading direct sales company, needed a cost-effective way to protect its two business-critical websites as it moved them from a third-party hosted facility to its own data center. The challenge was to maintain high availability and disaster recovery for two SQL Server Standard Edition instances without the added expense of SQL Server Enterprise Edition or complex remote DR infrastructure. SIOS Technology provided the solution with SIOS DataKeeper Cluster Edition software.

SIOS Technology implemented a two-node SANLess cluster in an active-passive failover configuration, with one node on-premises and the other in AWS EC2 cloud. This hybrid setup let Epicure protect each SQL instance independently while avoiding the cost and single-point-of-failure risk of shared SAN storage. As a result, Epicure gained automatic failover, lower infrastructure and licensing costs, and greater flexibility, allowing its IT team to focus on other priorities.
