A Sintratec Case Study
FabRx, the UCL spin-out and world’s first company using selective laser sintering to prepare medicines, needed a 3D printing system that could support pharmaceutical research into personalized tablets, fast-disintegrating formulations, and complex drug-loaded shapes without degrading sensitive compounds. The team was looking for a laboratory-friendly solution that could help them explore printlets, polypills, and patient-specific dosing with precise control over material properties and dissolution behavior.
Sintratec provided FabRx with the Sintratec Kit SLS 3D printer and Sintratec Central software, enabling room-temperature sintering of pharmaceutical-grade materials with finely tunable laser speed and process parameters. The result was rapid research progress: the team printed 20 tablets in 20 minutes, proved that the drug remained 100% intact after sintering, achieved dissolution times from seconds to hours, and expanded their lab with a second Sintratec Kit used daily.
