Custom-made robot grippers for fragile workpieces

Werder Feinwerktechnik AG, a manufacturer of custom-made components, needed robot grippers that were delicate enough to handle fragile workpieces without damage. The challenge was to create grippers with the right fit, cushioning, and material properties for different processing steps, from soft, scratch-sensitive handling to hard, stable grippers for sandblasting. Sintratec’s SLS 3D printing technology was used to address this need.

Sintratec implemented a flexible laser sintering solution using two Sintratec Kits, enabling Werder Feinwerktechnik AG to produce custom grippers in both Sintratec TPE and Sintratec PA12. This allowed the company to precisely tailor hardness, flexibility, and durability to each workpiece, while keeping production economical for small quantities. The result was a practical, long-term solution for highly customized robot grippers, though no specific numerical performance metrics were provided.
