A Sintelix Case Study
The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) needed to understand the commercial impact of its $11 billion health research funding program by identifying patents linked to its grants. They engaged Semantic Sciences, which utilized Sintelix technology, to tackle the immense challenge of connecting 20,000 grants to over 10 million patent records from multiple international repositories.
Semantic Sciences implemented a three-stage solution using Sintelix, involving automated patent identification, a scoring algorithm for refinement, and a custom web application for accelerated human review. This process identified 65,000 candidate patents, which were refined to 11,497 and then verified to reveal 1,105 new patents connected to NHMRC grants. A review of just 10 random patents demonstrated a combined commercial impact of $862 million, successfully proving the viability of assessing the program's value.
