Biola University Creates More Effective Alerting System with InformaCast

Biola University needed a faster, more reliable way to reach people during emergencies after a lockdown test showed alerts sent only to mobile devices were often missed. With limited time, budget and resources—and a three‑month window to improve notification for a follow-up drill—the IT and campus safety teams opted to pilot a targeted solution at a single high‑traffic site rather than attempt a campus‑wide rollout.

They deployed InformaCast from Singlewire, installing an outdoor speaker and using a phased approach to add integrations (desk phones, Cyberdata SIP call buttons, blue light poles and Early Warning Labs earthquake alerts). The pilot produced audible alerts during the scheduled drill, reduced panic‑button notification time from minutes to instantaneous desktop pop‑ups for dispatchers, and set the foundation for ongoing expansion to indoor speakers and digital signage.
