SmarTone, a leading telecom provider in Hong Kong with 2.7 million subscribers, needed to protect its network and customers from spam, fraudulent SMS, and illegitimate A2P traffic while avoiding upfront CAPEX. The company looked for an OPEX-only firewalling solution and chose Sinch’s SMS Firewall and A2P Monetization services to address the challenge.
Sinch implemented the firewall within months and later added A2P Monetization to help SmarTone control filtering, reduce unauthorized messaging, and monetize enterprise traffic. The combined solution paid for itself, reduced grey-route A2P SMS traffic, and drove new revenue for SmarTone; A2P messaging volume also rose 102% from March 2020 to July 2021, creating a stronger revenue stream.
