A SIMUL8 Case Study
St Luke’s University Health Network, a network of 12 hospitals in Pennsylvania, faced the urgent challenge of optimizing its Covid-19 vaccine rollout. The goal was to deliver a sustainable service that could maintain excellent standards of care and a consistent patient experience with variable staffing levels across its campuses. To address this, they turned to SIMUL8 simulation software.
Using SIMUL8, the team built a visual model to test resource allocation without risking patient safety or throughput. The simulation confirmed that sharing staff between teams was viable, allowing them to reduce labor needs while maintaining a total patient time in system of 25 minutes. This optimization led to a savings of 12 Full Time Equivalents (FTE) across seven campuses, resulting in a cost avoidance of $120,000 over three months while delivering approximately 350,000 vaccinations.
