A SIMUL8 Case Study
Kelly Services, a staffing company with 1,400 branch and corporate offices, needed a better way to optimize its back-office business processes. Using SIMUL8 simulation software, Senior Director of Process Engineering Charlie Richards and his team modeled everyday branch operations to understand how hiring, order-taking, and administrative work were affecting productivity.
Working with SIMUL8, Kelly Services tested different staffing and workflow scenarios in the simulation. The results showed that branch offices were overloaded with administrative tasks, and that adding an operations manager would improve administrative completion from 20% to 80% while maintaining the same number of orders filled and revenue. A further simulation indicated that moving much of the administrative work to corporate headquarters would be an even better solution, and SIMUL8’s results helped secure management buy-in for the change.
