HP, a worldwide leader in manufacturing electronic equipment, wanted to improve production throughput, process times, and profitability in its test and measurement products assembly and test operations. To address this challenge, HP used SIMUL8 simulation software to analyze its manufacturing process and identify constraints and opportunities for improvement.

SIMUL8 modeled the assembly and test process using data such as cycle times, machine failure rates, labor availability, shift patterns, and storage capacities. By testing different order and labor scenarios, HP determined the most effective production setup, identified quick-win productivity gains, and reduced non-value-adding activities—delivering an estimated annual savings of $100,000 in opportunity costs.
