GM increases throughput by 5% with SIMUL8

gm holden, a subsidiary of GM and Australia's largest automotive company, faced the challenge of needing to increase production throughput to meet rising demand without incurring additional costs. To address this, they used SIMUL8 simulation software to create a virtual model of their assembly line and identify bottlenecks.

Using the SIMUL8 simulation, the team discovered that redistributing maintenance resources to critical areas and, counterintuitively, removing two excess system carriers would improve efficiency. As a result of these changes implemented with SIMUL8, GM Holden increased its throughput by 5%, meeting the increased demand without raising overhead or maintenance costs.
