CHEP, a global supply chain and logistics company and part of the Brambles Group, faced the challenge of validating a major investment in a new automated assembly line design for their pallet service centers. They needed to ensure the proposed redesign would provide a strong return on investment before purchasing new machinery. To address this, they turned to simulation software from vendor SIMUL8.

Using SIMUL8, CHEP was able to experiment with the proposed design in a risk-free environment. The simulation identified key issues in the initial plan, such as larger than expected buffering requirements, which prevented a costly post-installation redesign. This validation gave CHEP confidence in the final design and ensured the investment would achieve ROI. SIMUL8 has since been used for numerous other projects within the company to improve processes.
