University of North Dakota expands medical simulations across 4 programs with SimTutor

The University of North Dakota faced a sudden challenge when the COVID-19 pandemic forced campus closures, halting in-person simulation-based learning for its PharmD program. This created an urgent need to provide high-quality, hands-on educational experiences that supported asynchronous learning and collaboration across various academic disciplines remotely.

To address this, the university implemented a pilot program with SimTutor, using the SimTutor Author content authoring simulation platform. The solution enabled faculty to create interactive modules and allowed students to practice scenarios from anywhere. Due to overwhelmingly positive feedback, the university expanded its use of SimTutor to deliver all medical simulations and asynchronous learning. This provided students with a virtual, real-life experience that prepared them for the workforce, leading to the platform's adoption across multiple disciplines including medical lab sciences and occupational therapy.
