A SimScale Case Study
Thermo-Consult, a Hungarian HVAC&R design and consultancy firm, was contracted by the University of Pannonia to design a cleanroom for a dual‑mode S/TEM electron microscope. The project required extreme air‑state stability (0.25°C/20 min and 1°C/24 h), ISO 8 cleanliness, strictly upward airflow and a maximum local air velocity of 0.08 m/s, so Thermo‑Consult used SimScale’s cloud‑based CFD simulation platform to validate and refine the ventilation design.
Using SimScale, Thermo‑Consult imported the Onshape model, ran iterative coarse and fine‑mesh CFD analyses (OPS1 and OPS2), optimized displacement diffuser placement and enlarged the perforated exhaust plenum to eliminate dead zones and meet supplier criteria. SimScale enabled rapid evaluation of eight flow configurations, produced a final CFD report for supplier approval, and delivered measurable impact—about $40K average savings on hardware—while allowing the team to finalize the HVAC system with confidence.
