Sogea Maroc used CFD simulation with SimScale to assess the efficiency of a water treatment basin

Sogea Maroc, a long-standing engineering and construction firm, needed to evaluate the design of a water treatment basin to detect disturbance phenomena, assess free-surface behavior, and determine potential overflow under specified inlet and outlet operating conditions. To do this the team used SimScale’s cloud-based CAE platform for CFD, focusing on free-surface multiphase flow to determine flow topology at the basin outlets.

Using SimScale, Sogea Maroc ran multiphase CFD simulations (including a 3‑million element hex-parametric mesh) to track water-level contours, velocity distributions, and recirculation regions around suction pipes over time. The SimScale-driven analysis showed no basin overflow for the given conditions, revealed localized recirculation due to inactive pumps, enabled optimization of structure dimensioning and equipment, reduced design time by 50%, and helped lower project costs while satisfying the customer.
