A SimScale Case Study
Schübeler Technologies, a German manufacturer of CFRP fans and UAV components, needed to validate and optimize a turbomachinery fan blade assembly to reduce weight while ensuring structural safety. The team struggled with the complexity of Code_Aster for FEA, so they turned to the SimScale platform, which made the solver accessible through an easier user interface and enabled engineers without deep Code_Aster expertise to run reliable simulations.
Using SimScale, Schübeler ran stepwise FEA—starting with a coarse static linear analysis and progressing to a nonlinear static assembly study with physical contacts—proving the weight-optimized design safe at operation (50,000 rpm). SimScale runs ranged from a 20,000‑node job in 24 minutes on 4 cores to a full 95,000‑node study in 21 minutes on 32 cores, enabling access to high-performance resources, cutting the number of physical prototypes, and delivering measurable savings (about $40k in average hardware savings) in time and cost.
