PRP Architects Develop Customized Workflow for Complex Geometry With SimScale

PRP Architects, an interdisciplinary architecture firm focused on urban regeneration, needed a better way to run pedestrian wind comfort studies for its Talbot Gardens project in Plymouth, UK. The site’s steep slope, coastal exposure, and complex Revit-based geometry made traditional CFD preparation and meshing time-consuming, especially when evaluating amenity platforms and terraces for occupant comfort.

Using SimScale’s cloud-native CFD platform and GPU-powered LBM solver, PRP streamlined model import, simplified complex geometry with technical support, and ran comfort assessments for 24 wind directions across existing and proposed scenarios. SimScale delivered wind comfort plots directly in the simulation output, reducing post-processing time and enabling results in about 4 to 6 hours per wind scenario, helping PRP make earlier design decisions and offer in-house simulation services more efficiently.
