Case Study: Malaika achieves safer, optimized child car seats with SimScale

A SimScale Case Study

Malaika designed safer car seats for children with FEA on SimScale

Malaika, a company founded to develop lighter, more user-friendly—and ultimately safer—child car seats, faced the challenge of optimizing critical components to exceed international crash-safety standards and reduce forces on children in vehicle accidents. To validate designs and push safety beyond existing norms, Malaika used FEA simulation on the SimScale platform to evaluate component- and system-level behavior under extreme loads.

Using SimScale, Malaika ran structural simulations (including worst-case loading up to 3600 N) on the ISOfix connector and the length adjustment rack to locate high-stress and yielding zones, guiding design changes such as adding a second rim to the connector head and identifying where the adjustment rack needed reinforcement. The SimScale-driven process reduced dependence on hardware prototyping, helped launch an optimized car seat, and delivered measurable savings—about $40k on average in hardware costs—while enabling ongoing virtual testing to further cut physical tests.
