A SimScale Case Study
Intelligent Growth Solutions (IGS), a multi-award-winning agritech company, faced the challenge of predicting thermal and airflow behavior within its tightly engineered Growth Tray with Lights (GTL) for vertical farming. Physical design changes required lengthy three-week growth trials to validate, and understanding how component layout affected performance historically demanded building costly prototypes. IGS turned to vendor SimScale and its cloud-native CFD platform, specifically using its Conjugate Heat Transfer solver, to virtually simulate these complex interactions and de-risk design changes before physical testing.
Using SimScale, IGS created a validated digital twin of the GTL that produced an extremely close match to physical test data. This solution allowed the team to confidently baseline their design and assess future iterations virtually, drastically reducing the number of time-consuming and costly physical trials required. The implementation by SimScale enabled a shift to simulation-driven design, accelerating innovation and providing the engineering team with the capacity to explore more concepts faster, which directly supports continuous product improvement for their globally deployed technology.
