GM Flow used SimScale to predict the discharge coefficient and velocity behaviour within their AdjustaCone fluid flow measurement device

GM Flow Measurement Services Ltd (GM Flow) needed a cost-effective way to predict the performance of its AdjustaCone® flow measurement device and minimise expensive physical prototyping. As a small company bringing new oilfield flow meters to market, they required reliable predictions of discharge coefficient and velocity behaviour to ensure safety, accuracy and robustness, so they turned to SimScale’s cloud-based CFD platform for simulation-driven design.

Using SimScale, GM Flow uploaded three geometry versions, generated hex-dominant meshes and ran compressible CFD analyses with custom boundary conditions in parallel, cutting iteration time. The SimScale-driven workflow produced a discharge coefficient that matched physical lab tests by 95%, captured critical velocity patterns, allowed three design options to be evaluated concurrently, and delivered roughly £3.5k average savings on hardware by reducing prototypes.
