Glanzner Dynamics Is Improving HVAC Duct Design Through Cloud-Based Simulation from SimScale

Glanzner Dynamics, a small engineering design firm in Einhausen, Germany, needed to improve the flow of an exhaust pipe in an HVAC duct to reduce noise from vortices and turbulent fluctuations. To evaluate realistic 3D flow effects and find a manufacturable solution quickly, they turned to SimScale’s cloud-based CFD capabilities and imported their Onshape geometry for simulation.

Using SimScale, the team automatically generated a 1M‑cell mesh, ran about 10 design variants in parallel, and iterated rapidly to identify curved pipe segments, an air‑guide plate, and an increased vertical diameter that slowed and smoothed the flow. The SimScale workflow delivered an optimized design in one working day (24 h), cut physical prototyping by ~90%, and produced a client‑approved solution much faster than traditional methods.
