Case Study: Carlsson Autotechnik achieves rapid aerodynamic optimization in 5 hours with SimScale

A SimScale Case Study

Preview of the Carlsson Autotechnik Case Study

Carlsson Autotechnik optimized their car's aerodynamics within 5 hours

Carlsson Autotechnik, a specialist in Mercedes‑Benz tuning and automotive engineering services, needed to perform high‑quality aerodynamic development but lacked the large test facilities and hardware of major OEMs. To overcome this, they turned to SimScale’s browser‑based, pay‑as‑you‑go simulation platform to access CFD capabilities without heavy upfront investment.

Using SimScale, Carlsson uploaded and meshed their 3D vehicle shell, ran CFD analyses and iterated designs — completing the simulation in 5 hours at a cost of about €60 (≈$60) and avoiding roughly $40k of hardware spend. The SimScale results enabled the team to quantify drag and downforce, visualize pressure, velocity and turbulence, and optimize the C25’s aerodynamics far more quickly and cheaply than traditional wind‑tunnel testing.
